TAUMATA ō KUPE

Kauri was honoured to work with Te Mahurehure Marae, Point Chevalier, in the development of Taumata ō Kupe, a “portal that connects us to the stories which recall our intrinsic understanding of the living world and celebrates the achievements of our tupuna”. 

Taumata ō Kupe opened in November 2022 and is an innovative pātaka/storehouse to house, archive, safeguard, share and facilitate learning and research about indigenous history, navigation, environmental relationships and enlightenment.  

Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment Kānoa along with One Foundation, Foundation North and the Department of Internal Affairs provided grants to build this unique building. Kauri worked alongside TOA Architects, MPM Projects, Stryde Projects, and many other great companies to bring this project to life.

KOTUKUTUKU

In 2016 Kauri was engaged by Mahitahi Kainga Trust to develop a Social Housing project, a project inspired by the traditional Papakainga living model and to promote wellbeing. Kauri helped Mahitahi budget for undertaking the project, recommended consultants and suppliers for appointment and assisted Mahithai through the design process.

We worked with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development to secure an IRRS housing supply contract and ASB Bank for debt funding. We assisted Mahitahi Kainga Trust in applying for and becoming a Community Housing Provider via the Community Housing Regulatory Authority. Kauri worked with Mahitahi for 4 years including the construction stage. The build was completed on time and on budget in April 2021.
